3 funnel mistakes even smart coaches make

From the Tech-Simplified Desk of Rucheli:

Welcome back to Systeme.io Sundays, my weekly love letter to making tech feel less like rocket science and more like your favorite comfort food!

Last week, we dove into upsells and boosting your average cart value (because who doesn't want to make more money with the same amount of traffic, right?). Today, we're tackling something I see trip up even the smartest coaches: funnel mistakes that secretly sabotage your sales.

But before we dive in, I've got something exciting for ya! You can now catch our most recent workshop on how to ditch the tech overwhelm and finally LAUNCH…. On demand! Watch it on your own schedule (and even 2x it if you want) here: https://www.getthetechoutofhere.com/workshop

🔍 TLDR for the busy coaches:

  • The 3 biggest funnel mistakes that kill conversions (and how to fix them)

  • A "What's Next?" email sequence template to reduce refunds by 30%

  • Simple funnel audit challenge you can complete in under 15 minutes

Now, let's talk about those funnel faux pas that might be costing you customers...

🚀 Tech Truth Bomb: The Funnel Fails Nobody Talks About

Picture this: You've spent weeks perfecting your sales funnel. You've written copy that would make Hemingway jealous. Your graphics are Pinterest-worthy.

You've even figured out how to connect all the tech pieces (go you!).

And then... crickets. No sales. Nada. Zilch.

This happened to me with my very first course launch. After 10+ years as a software engineer, I thought building a funnel would be a breeze. Ha! I was so focused on making everything "perfect" that I completely missed some fundamental issues that were basically putting a "CLOSED" sign on my digital storefront.

Here's the truth: Most funnel problems aren't actually tech problems – they're human problems disguised as tech problems.

The top 3 funnel mistakes I see coaches making (and I've made ALL of these):

1. The "Kitchen Sink" Syndrome
You're trying to explain EVERYTHING about your offer, overwhelming your potential clients with information overload. Remember: confused minds don't buy. In
Systeme.io, I've found that simpler sales pages with clear, focused messaging consistently outperform complicated ones.

2. The "Ghost Town" Checkout
You've guided people all the way to your checkout page and then... abandoned them! No testimonials, no reassurance, no FAQs. It's like inviting someone to dinner and then disappearing when it's time to eat.
Systeme.io makes it easy to add trust elements to your checkout pages, but most people forget this crucial step.

3. The "Dead End" Thank You Page
Your thank you page is prime real estate for relationship building or even additional offers, but most coaches use it as nothing more than a "thanks for your money, bye!" page. This is literally leaving money on the table.

The good news? All of these problems are easily fixable, especially when you're using an all-in-one platform like Systeme.io that lets you quickly tweak and optimize without needing to reconnect seven different tools every time you want to make a change.

🛠️ Systeme.io Tip of the Week: The 5-Minute A/B Test Anyone Can Set Up

Since the "Kitchen Sink Syndrome" is such a common funnel killer, here's my favorite quick fix that's perfect for data-driven decisions (without needing a data science degree)... Set up an A/B test for your sales page headline in Systeme.io!

What you need first:

  • A Systeme.io account

  • A sales funnel already created (with your pages in place)

Step-by-Step: Creating a Split Test

1. Within your funnel, create two pages that you want to test (these are your two variants, e.g. Version A and Version B).

2. Choose a goal page—this is the page that both variants will redirect to so you can measure which version works better.

3. Go to the “A/B test” tab in Systeme.io.

4. Click “Choose a variant”.

5. In the pop-up:

  • Select your variant page (Version B), which will compete against the original (Version A).

  • Select the goal page that leads from both variants.

6. Click “Start A/B Test”.

7. If needed, you can cancel and reconfigure the variants later.

Once the test is running, you’ll see a statistics table showing how each variant performs. Pages involved in an active A/B test will also get a special icon so you can tell them apart.

🧠 Tech Simplification Challenge

This week, I want you to audit just ONE funnel:

  • Can a complete stranger understand what you're selling in 5 seconds?

  • Does your checkout page include testimonials or trust elements?

  • What happens IMMEDIATELY after someone buys? (Be honest!)

Identify just ONE area to improve, and make that change this week. Simple tweaks can lead to significant results!

Next week, we're starting a brand new mini-series all about course creation and delivery, kicking off with "Hosting your course on Systeme.io vs. other platforms." If you've been thinking about creating (or moving) a course, you won't want to miss it!
